What Makes Pétanque Special?

Rich History

Pétanque is one of the fastest growing sports in Europe. The game has evolved over decades, but its current form originated in 1907 in the town of La Ciotat, France.

Accessibility

Pétanque has been voted the most accessible sport in the world; anyone can play! At The Pétanque Project, we are building an inclusive community with Pétanque at its core.

Gamification

The growth in ‘competitive socialising’ reflects how consumers now look for more experience-led hospitality. Pétanque provides interactive fun that encourages social connections among guests.

Pop-up Anywhere

The sport’s simplicity and compact lane size makes it ideal to be played in the widest variety of locations and types of space.

How Do You Play Pétanque?

Throw the Jack

One player throws the small wooden ball (called the jack) 6-10 metres down the lane. This is your target.

Take Turns Throwing

A player on each team throws their first boule, aiming to land as close to the jack as possible. Feet stay together and on the ground!

Keep Going Until All Boules Are Thrown

The team furthest from the jack always throws next. Play continues until both teams have thrown all their boules.

Score & Start Again

The team with the boule closest to the jack wins the round. They score one point for every boule closer than their opponents best.

First to 13 points wins. Then… rematch?!

Immersive Experience

Our expert mixologist can deliver bespoke cocktails specially curated for your event. We can also provide a mobile bar setup to create an unforgettable cocktail experience alongside our lanes. We manage everything for you!
